Macy Moo

As I was looking thro my pics, I came across this one of Macy. It's so adorable I had to blog it - can't remember if I already have or not, but oh, well. A few days ago we were FaceTiming with them and Rick asked Macy her name. She usually says "Meme," but this time she said "Macy Moo." It was so plain we both thought Stella had said it. Apparently that was the first she ever told anyone Macy Moo instead of Meme.

Golfing with Chris, Rick, Bruce, and Sherrie at Twin Creeks Golf Course

This golf course is so pretty, almost makes me forget I'm in Texas. Lots of trees and other greenery, high hills with craggy rocks. A cute little lizard on a rock, and the most amazing prickly pear plant I have ever seen. It almost looked like a tree.

We did get rained and misted on, and my hair was quite cute. Not. I didn't golf, just rode in the cart and took pics.

We ate dinner at the Country Club after - most delicious. Chopped salad and baked potato, very simple.

Chris

Chris flew in yesterday afternoon. It is always so much fun to have one of the kids, or all of them, come to visit. And we are lucky in that it is always possible.

I picked him up from the airport, we drove home, and then he wanted to go look for some golfing things, since he and his dad have a tee time with Bruce and Sherrie, who live next door, on Fri. We drove to Dick's, about 30 min away, searched the store, got kinda what he wanted, and then came home.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we had WhataBurger for lunch. Jason was amazed, said he couldn't believe Chris wanted a burger and not Torchy's or Rudy's. We'll hit one of them today.

Still chilly today. Must not be the part of the weather Texans are always talking about.

Freezing

Mon, Tues, and Wed the temp was over 90*. Quite warmish. Then it cooled down to the low 60s Thurs and was 72* on Fri. Last night, Fri, it was supposed to drop to 34*. My garden was looking beautiful, the zukes and cukes were getting (relatively) big. A week ago we got some cold night time temps, and froze all but 2 of my beautiful zukes and cukes. Didn't hurt the tomatoes at all.

I replanted and the plants had just come, but I didn't want them to freeze again, so last night I covered them. Got up this morning, took off the sheets and towels, and they had survived fine. But I forgot to bring in or cover my 3 hanging baskets!!?? The petunias were fine, but the impatiens looked quite sad. I sprayed them with some water, hoping they would come out of it. They did, and look fine this afternoon.

Rick and I went to a new plant nursery today, they had some quite large zukes and cukes so we bought 2 and I planted them. Hope they do well. Ohhhh, I have 5 tomatoes on my tomato plants!!

Moral of the story - keep track of freezing weather so your cukes and zukes don't freeze!!

Adjusting

Day by day, week by week, I'm adjusting to living here. Rick and I are happy to get off the crazy northeast coast (meaning New York, New Jersey, and Philiadephia). The bombing at the Boston Marathon just makes me even happier that we are gone. There are many good people living in those areas who grew up there and love it, it's home, and the church members are very strong and committed. And we did enjoy our time while we were there - it was fun to see a different part of this great country (or used to be great). And bad things can and will happen anywhere. For instance, Kim Jong Un included Austin in the 3 cities he means to bomb - New York, D.C., and Austin!!???

Yet, as I adjust, while missing friends and familiar places, I'm happy to be here. I also have to mention that my adjustment would have gone much better if all this mess with my jaws and ears hadn't happened. A small benefit of going to dentists, doctors, PTs and chiros has helped me learn my way around much sooner than I normally would have, especially going south into Austin, which I wouldn't have done without all the medical appointments.

Speaking of that, I think the physical therapy is helping a lot. The chiropracting, not so much. I will continue with PT and have already discontinued with chiro.

Jason's afghan

Jason wanted me to crochet him another afghan, but this time a "no holes" one. He first came up with a design that I thought I could do, but as I looked at it more, I decided I wouldn't be able to crochet it. So he came up with another design. These are the colors of his fav English soccer team, Everton (I hope that is correct). So, during Conf, I was crocheting. Then I realized I needed to get busy on an afghan for Paige's new baby. And maybe Emily's.

General Conf

I found the talks inspiring and uplifting. Rick and I want to go to Conf in Oct. I don't think he has ever been, but Kristi got tickets about 7 or 8 years ago and she, mom, Paige and I all went to the Conference Center to see it. She had gotten tickets for the Sunday morning session, which was even better. Just something about being in SLC, with all the crowd, all our voices rising to heaven, as it were...a mighty petition of righteousness.

We get BYU tv here as part of our package, so we could watch it on tv. Usually we have to watch over the internet, which is good also. I haven't been watching much tv, but I'm going to start checking out what BYU tv has; even their worst programing will be better than most of the garbage on regular cable and network.
