Kayaking

Rick and I went kayaking this morning for an hour and 20 min or so, and we didn't even get to the end of the pond/lake. It was quite breezy and I was a little concerned about the waves and maneuvering it until we got started. No problem, plus the wind really wasn't bad after we got going. It was great fun. Now we want to get a two-person kayak; not sure if we'll get that done before they get here next week.

I wanted to take pics of us on the water but didn't want to bring the camera or phone in case we tumbled in. I meant to get a disposable when we were at Walmart, but forgot.

It was great exercise, Rick and I plan on going once a week.

Ready to kayak

Rick and I went kayaking with Chris and Alyona last summer on the ponds in Chris' housing unit. It was really fun; I knew I liked to canoe because I had done that at girls camp. Kayaking is much more fun.

Since the little sail boat will never see water as long as we live in Texas :) or :( we decided to get kayaks (unless it peeks around the corner at the swimming pool). We have several places that will be easy to launch them, plus all the kids can use them when they get here this summer.

The salesman at Dick's was really good; every few moments he found another thing we just "had to have" "he was just giving us the best advice he has for successful kayaking."  We did get 2 life jackets (even tho we have life vests) and 2 orange whistles, out of all he suggested. I guess that is the bare minimum to keep us safe.

New car, new to you car

Jason's new Mercedes. He almost didn't do it, then Chris said you've been talking about leasing this for years, you might as well do it and get it out of your system. I think it just might make his system crave it more, like crack or heroin, and not be happy with anything else. He can always sell the townhouse and sleep in his car, I guess.

The inside of Scott's new car. His is an NGV/bifuel, or natural gas/reg gas vehicle. Fill-ups are $5 or so.

OK, Rick just told me this is not his car, but the Challenger that is a rental. Trying to trick his mother, who doesn't know cars and doesn't care.

You're never too old to play in the mud

Stephanie, Kincade, and Paige participated in a 3 mile mud run. Looks like fun, Rick and I would have walked it. How come the Utah people get to do all the fun stuff?

Another ant foot

I was talking to our neighbor across the street and felt something biting on my foot. I looked down and my foot had about 10 small ants on it. Fire ants!!! I rushed home, soaked my foot in 20 Mule Team Borax, then put Orajel on the bites. Not too many, about five.

My foot doesn't feel tooo bad, but I do need to go soak it again and put more Orajel on it. I just don't know how or why the fire ants always seem to search me out.

Book group

Who is reading Rise to Rebellion?
I know Scott and Jason are. Jason is really enjoying it. I'm going to try and dig back into it, I do love all the history of the American Revolution. He is evidently bringing out some really good info that I doubt a lot of Americans know. Jason was telling me about some of it yesterday.

So, another try? Everyone? Everyone? Anyone?

Beep...beep...beep

Yesterday I was at Costco in the parking lot looking at my list. I had stopped in front of an SUV and all of a sudden the vehicle started beeping at me like I wrote in the title "beep...beep...beep" and I thought this car is beeping at me for standing so close! So I moved away. Then I saw a man walking up and realized he had just been unlocking his car.

Alligator in Austin pond

I was just reading the headlines on my Homepage. People have been having alligator sightings for about 10 years on a swampy pond that is surrounded by homes and a school. People go there to walk all the time; the game wardens put up a sign warning about the gator. They said they can't/won't do anything about hunting it/them until there is a problem. You mean, like after somebody is eaten?

A father said he won't let his son go there alone, and always has his son walk in the middle of the track with him, not on the outside.

I think I would just forgo walking on the grounds around this pond.

Tarantulas, scorpions, fire ants, rattle snakes...now alligators. Texas has a lot to offer.
