Emergency Room Episode

Mom got up yesterday at 10am, having a great morning. She was walking to the bathroom, walking into the kitchen to get a drink. I set up a hair appointment for her for 1:30. And it went downhill from there. Quickly.

Without getting into all the gory details, she had problems with her bowels, so much so that she was lying on the floor in pain, where she had slipped, and Gary and I couldn't move her. Finally I called an ambulance; they came and helped us get her up and we decided we could drive her to the emergency room. Everything still going downhill. We arrived at the ER at 2pm, didn't get to a room until 3:30 and then saw the doc. Several tests (and a lot of time) later nothing wrong was found and we came home at 8pm. She was exhausted, and I was exhausted, both physically and emotionally.

Eagle Mt, then St George

I flew to Utah last Sunday, am spending the week with Paige, grandkids, and Scott, and then on Sat Scott and I will drive to St George. Eric has been staying with mom since the middle of Nov, when I left; he needs to leave on Mon to go to Bullhead City for the permanency hearing for Arin's little baby, DJ. How long I will be in St George, I'm not sure yet, but should know by Feb 4.

Mom is not doing well, Eric will start tinkering with her meds today or tomorrow, with the dr approval. Hopefully, it will clear her mind a little and help her muscle control so she can walk again.

I had just left Paige's less than 2 weeks ago, and was looking forward to spending some time at home. But, when love and duty calls....

Last night in her bedtime prayer Stella asked Heavenly Father to bless Grandma Deeney since she was sick. Today she was playing in her kitchen, and made soup for Grandma Deeney, since "she is sick." I think the Lord listens to her prayers as much as anyone's.

How much does a stop cost?

Can you read this? Rick and I were out driving and came across this stop sign. I guess that's as good a warning as any; in all fairness, it did look like it could be a dangerous intersection. Or perhaps the police in New Britain just have an unusual sense of humor.

1st snow of 2012

After living in North Carolina for 3 1/2 years, I've come to enjoy winter less and southern climates more. But, I have discovered, if I live in a snow area and don't get snow, I'm disappointed.

So imagine my surprise when I looked out the window this morning, after being up for an hour, and saw it snowing. It snowed these huge flakes for 1/2 hour then stopped. It's all gone, barely even registered on the ground - but was so pretty while it lasted.

This is not actually the first snow of the season. The first snowfall was that really bizarre one back in Oct. Dumped a bunch of snow, broke lots of tree branches, causing power outages - but in Oct? Seemed too early. So far, this has been an unusually mild winter.

Burglars and Alarms and Alarms

Last night I set the laser alarm going up the stairs. At 3:30 am the alarm went off, waking me from a deep sleep. I rushed downstairs to turn it off, and later realized that the purpose of the alarm was to wake me in case of a break in - so the best thing to do is not to rush downstairs to shut it off, but to evaluate the situation. But I stayed downstairs and slept on the couch. The next thing I know I'm awaken from another good sleep to hear music playing. I realize it's coming from my phone; somehow my phone alarm got set for Wed morning at 8 am. I let Stella play with my phone and she must have set the alarm.

I'm back from Utah (obviously, or I'm wouldn't be writting about the home alarm). Rick and I had a wonderful time during our vacation, and hope all the Owens kids and in-law did also.

Stella and Macy both got sick after Christmas. Stella asked me for a puke bowl almost every morning, but never needed it. She has such a small appetite in even the best of times; when she's not feeling well she almost quits eating, so the best way to get some nourishment down her is to feed her. Last Sat I came back to Paige's after being out with my sister, Kristi. There is Kincade sitting at the kitchen table holding Macy, Stella in her chair. He had a big tub of cottage cheese in front of him - a bite for Macy, a bite for Stella, and a bite for Kincade. I wish I had gotten my camera to get a pic of this scene. Quite cute.

Here are the little girls playing in the basement. Stella keeps track of Macy, carrying her away from things she shouldn't get into. Such a great big sis.

Macy is turning into such a wiggle worm it was difficult to even change her diaper, much less get her dressed.

The party's over

Rick and I got up this morning at 6am to take Chris to the airport, then we drove around downtown SLC for a few minutes. The deep blue Christmas lights were still on and made me really regret that we didn't make sure we got to Temple Square to walk around. We were going to go and ride the trolley/train, go to the used book store, and see all the lights. Oh, well, save it for another year.

Rick leaves tomorrow, and I leave next Monday. I'm not going to go to St George. My brother Eric is there, so I will just go home and plan on returning in late Feb or early March (or sometime!). She is doing so much better than in Oct, which makes all her children happy.

Last night was Macy's 1st birthday party; she is such a little cutie pie. Paige had it a few days early so Rick and Chris could be there. I can't believe how much she has changed just in the 12 days we have been here. This morning she climbed up about 6 stairs, just heading up, following Stella (of course, Rick was right beside her). Right now we are watching Stella and Macy; Paige and Kincade are using this time with Nano and Papaw here to go to a movie and lunch date without kids.
