Galveston

Rick came home on Fri at 1pm and we left right away for Galveston. Because we hit rush hour outside of Houston, what is actually a 3 1/2 hour drive without any traffic took over 5 hours. But I understand that with Houston, there is no such thing as regular traffic, it is always a mess.

Out hotel, The Gastonian, was nice and right on the beach, which is what we wanted. We immediately went for a walk on the beach. Lots of dead blue jellyfish had washed up on the shore, we saw about 8-10 in our hour walk.

The hotel had a firepit area up on the beach they light every night, and one on their grounds. People were out around them, but it was late and we were tired so we just went to bed.

Got up the next morning, walked on the beach and in the water. Some people were playing in the ocean thro out the day; even tho we walked in the water, we didn't even go up waist high. Because this isn't the busy season, nothing was crowded. Came up to the hotel, got in the hot tub and into the pool. The pool was heated so it wasn't too cold.

We drove around to see if we wanted to see any of the town sights. The downtown is small and old, about what I expected. We decided we wanted to spend out time on the beach, since that is what we came to do, not exploring a touristy little town. Ate breakfast out, the beignets were delish.

I wanted seafood, even tho I'm not a big fan, since we were on the ocean. A late lunch of seafood and we were happy with our choice, but would try another place the next time. Lots of food leftover, luckily we had a small kitchen.

That night we walked out to the firepits, only the hotel grounds one was lit, it was quite windy so I think they didn't light the beach one.

Sunday morning got up and another long walk on the beach, then to the hot tub and pool. We left around 10am for home. All around it was just a super fun and relaxing weekend. We would definitely do it again.
